| We, Technoviking is the remix of more than 50 re-enacted Internetclips which were collected between 2007 and 2010. The video's soundtrack consists also out of re-enacted music based on the originals soundtrack from the Technoviking clip. Matthias Fritsch researched the internet history of his video Kneecam No.1 aka Technoviking from it's production until it became a popular internet Meme with more than 30 million clicks on the internet and more than three thousand video responses on Youtube. He created the Technoviking Archive.The archive contains images, emails, blogs, forum discussions and a selection of some hundered videoresponses which are categorized to show the different attempts of the Web 2.0's recycling culture. |
After the users appropriated the dramaturgy of the Technoviking – they re-enacted and posted the clip back to the internet. Now the filmmaker is appropriating the re-enacted versions himself and remixes them into a new music-video-like clip. The phenomenon of net-based memes, thus, comes full circle: the re-enactments are in turn valorized as works of art. It presents very entertaining how alive and bizarre the recycling culture in the web 2.0 is and also shows the conditions of production of the creative users. |
