  THE GREEN KITCHEN
Garden pavillion, 2018

This garden pavilion was developed as a commissioned work for the Centre for Cultural Research as an artistic, sculptural and walk-in work with reference to city gardeners in the focal area Falkenhagener Feld in Berlin-Spandau. This garden pavilion was created according to the principle of the geodesic dome and is intended to serve as a meeting point, place of relaxation and for workshops and events with residents. We built the dome together with children and young people from the Falkenhagener Feld and volunteers from other districts. The dome will be covered with wines during the next vegetation period.

Geodetic domes have by nature a very good statics with relatively low material expenditure, since the forces are distributed evenly over the grid. Our dome has a diameter of 4m and weighs just under 200 kg. A special feature of our dome is its construction from triangles, which are connected by their surfaces and not, as usual, by the meeting points of the individual struts.
Geodetic domes are also perfect for use as greenhouses, because the shape of the dome prevents heat accumulation and the air circulates more evenly.
