| In the 20th year of the original Technoviking video, this mashup shows excerpts from the most outstanding fan videos related to the Technoviking Meme. Fans recreate aspects of the original clip by staging it in the real world or on game platforms such as World of Warcraft, Minecraft, Skyrim, Grand Theft Auto IV, Fortnite and others, or by converting the Technoviking character into an animated format. The user clips were collected between 2007 and 2019 by Matthias Fritsch as part of his research on user culture on the Internet. |
With the emergence of popular video platforms and the resulting evolution of his viral video "Kneecam No.1", Fritsch built up the Technoviking Archive. The archive contains a flood of pictures, e-mails, articles, blogs, forum discussions and a selection of several hundred video responses catalogued in over 50 categories in order to understand the various strategies of recycling on the web. It presents very entertainingly and in a vivid way how lively and bizarre the recycling culture and production methods of the network and its users are. |
