| Description Under the title Majava (Finnish for beaver), artist Maria L. Räihälä is renaturalizing former wetlands in central Finland. The 4-channel video installation of the same name presents one of her rewilding projects and raises awareness of the importance of environmental protection measures in a world where humanity is increasingly feeling the negative effects of climate change and species extinction. |
Background After numerous swamps in Finland were drained as a result of forestry practices in the last century, these areas now emit more carbon dioxide than the entire Finnish transport sector produces in the same period. For environmental and climate protection reasons, it is important that these areas are restored to their original state as carbon sinks. |
